Fare rises may affect Hackney more than Council Tax

This week saw the Mayor finally announce the fare package for 2010, with bus fares increasing overall by 12.7% and Tube fares by 3.9%

Keith Angus, Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Stoke Newington and Hackney North said,

“For the second year in a row the Mayor is punishing Londoners with an inflation busting increase in fares. Car ownership in Hackney is low and public transport is a major item of expenditure. The Mayor has boasted of freezing Council Tax but these rises are likely to affect especially the low paid more.
