Labour - "soft on crime"

Bullet Point 2010-04-18 19:09:50

Dave Raval at Hackney Police StationYou don’t need to be brain of Britain to know that violent crime is a big problem inHackney. Tragically, knife and gun crime happen so regularly that they often don’t even make the news. After all of Labour’s hype for 13 years, look where it’s left us.

So what do the Tories propose doing about this? Well, Boris Johnson has announced they are cutting 455 police officers and over 3,000 Special (volunteer)
policemen in London, to save money. We think this is wrong.

So instead the Lib Dems have proposed costed plans for an extra 246 police officers in London. We will get the money for this by stopping Boris’s cuts and removing unnecessary expenditure on press officers, consultants and chauffeurs. We’ll also focus much more on long-term prevention, like more youth clubs to keep kids off the streets, community payback schemes for minor crime and better resourced social care for troubled families , so that children don’t drift into gangs.

Local campaigner Dave Raval said “Violent crime is a running sore in Hackney. Don’t be fooled by yet more Labour and Tory promises to sound tough. What we need are things that work, not soundbites.”
