Now they're trying to take away our homes!

Bullet Point 2006-02-26 19:22:36

Yet again, the Labour council are getting into hot water over property sell-offs. The difference is that this time its Hoxton residents' homes that are being sold off.

Residents at Aske House have been told to quit their homes to make way for redevelopment in their "prime location" near Hoxton Square. We have asked Jules Pipe to stop this travesty and to reveal exactly what other plans he has for our homes after May's elections.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said "I had a letter straight after Christmas saying I would have to move as 'the property was to be demolished/disposed of'. I have put a lot of time and money into renovating this place to make a decent home. Since then the Council have refused to give any further explanation".

It is appalling that worried householders are treated like this. Queries by residents and even the local MP Meg Hillier have been ignored. Is this the latest in a programme of sell-offs to exploit rocketing property prices in Hoxton at the expense of local people?

No-one wants another Broadway Market fiasco in Hoxton, so what exactly are the Council hiding?
