CAMPAIGN TO SAVE OUR POST OFFICES
CLICK HERE TO SIGN THE PETITION
Seven Hackney post offices are threatened with closure under Government plans - and local Liberal Democrats have launched an urgent campaign to save them.
First in line for the chop in Hackney are post offices in Blackstock Road, Cassland Road, Chatsworth Road, Lower Clapton Road, Murray Grove, Stoke Newington Road and Wilton Way.
Campaigning outside the post office in Wilton Road on Saturday, Brian Stone said, "So many people rely on these places - pensioners and other vulnerable residents. We're speaking up for local people."
"These threats of closure show the cold attitude of a Government which seems to be the servant of big business, and they're just not necessary."
Another campaigner, Reuben Thompson, told us: "Liberal Democrats will be visiting threatened post offices across the borough with petitions for people to sign. But people can also access the petition by visiting our website. Or they can write to their MP. But they must do it now."
"The Government is trying to claim that there is no alternative to their closure programme," says Meral Ece. "They are wrong. Liberal Democrats have put forward a fully funded investment plan for the Post Office that would create a thriving network. We don't need any more cuts."
