Local residents react to Green Party's "Vote Green, Get Ken" pact
Many local residents in Hackney have condemned the Greens' electoral pact with Labour's Ken Livingstone. Lining up to support the anti-green and pro-war Labour Party is seen by many as selling out their green principles.
Cllr Meral Ece, Liberal Democrat London Assembly candidate for North East London said "The Greens claim to be a party of environmental principle, yet they have formed an electoral pact in the London elections with Gordon Brown's anti-green Labour Party. Every vote cast to support the Greens, will be an endorsement for pro-airport expansion, and a vote of confidence for Labour's support of nuclear power."
Meral went on to say "This is not a case of two parties coming together to promote environmentally friendly policies- it is a case of the Green Party lining up in solidarity with a pro-war, anti-green party, and Livingstone's shameful stance on the killing of innocent Jean Charles de Menezes. They have lined up in opposition to Liberal Democrat proposals for a Greater London congestion charge, (from which Londoners themselves would be exempt) for people living outside of London, to discourage them driving into the capital, and would further reduce CO2 emissions"
