Hoxton: The (E)state We Are In

Bullet Point 2005-11-28 10:21:38

By Carl Nicols
Local Campaigner

Introduction
As your local Focus Team, we’ve spent the last four months listening to the residents of the estates in Hoxton and Shoreditch and you’ve told us all about how Hackney Council have promised everything but delivered almost nothing.

Our Estates
From the leaking guttering in Hathaway House to the state of the balconies in Bletchley Court, years of neglect have left many estates in need of major renovations. We are commited to making the council live up to its responsibilities to you so we can all be proud to call it home.

Poor Maintenance
In Buxton Court, scaffolding stood for months in one of the stairwells. With our help this has finally been removed. Security doors were promised by Hackney back in April but have not yet been installed — allowing drug users to continue to colonise stairwells, creating misery for the residents.

Our Safety
It’s high time that we should all be able to live in safety, peace and comfort. We will continue to campaign until this is true for everyone here in Hoxton and Shoreditch.
